India–Japan Semiconductor Forum Strengthens Global Partnership

The India–Japan Semiconductor Forum, held during SEMICON Japan 2025 in Tokyo, marked a brought about deepening bilateral cooperation between two coutries. Bringing together policymakers, global industry leaders and ecosystem stakeholders, the forum focused on building resilient, scalable and globally competitive semiconductor value chains.

The discussions reflected the growing strategic alliances between India and Japan and increasingly translating into concrete industry participation, collaborative initiatives and long-term commitments across the semiconductor ecosystem. Participants emphasised that closer policy–industry alignment will be critical to achieving shared ambitions in semiconductor manufacturing, design and innovation.

“By combining Japan’s manufacturing excellence with India’s scale, talent, and policy momentum, this partnership can become a formidable force in the global semiconductor ecosystem,” said Ashok Chandak, President, SEMI India & IESA.

Key themes included semiconductor policies and incentives, human capital development and skilling, university and academic collaboration, fabs, advanced packaging and OSAT capabilities and the role of industry associations in enabling cross-border engagement. There was a strong emphasis on joint R&D, technology transfer and clearly defined pathways to scalable manufacturing and chip design.

The momentum from the forum is said to highlight that India–Japan semiconductor collaboration is timely, strategic and globally significant, positioning both nations as important contributors to the future semiconductor value chain.
